Remember to care for self, too

“An empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly.” - Unknown

I know this week is likely busy and potentially stressful, especially in light of all of the challenges of 2020, so I will keep this short.

If you are someone who thinks of self-care as more of a luxury than a necessity, you are not alone.

However, let me ask:

How can you appropriately meet the needs and expectations of those who rely on you if you do not put the time in to care for yourself?

I feel our society puts too much pressure on us to constantly perform and does not provide enough encouragement for us to truly care for ourselves mentally and physically.

Self-care and self-love are critical to our overall health. It can be as simple as snuggling up with a favorite book or taking a weekly yoga class; or it can be as elaborate as a golf or spa or ski getaway. The important part is that it is done with some consistency and that the process does not cause unnecessary stress. Because that would defeat the purpose, right?

So I challenge you:

Find what lights you up so you can share your light and energy and love with those around you without completing depleting yourself. And do it consistently enough that your light is always shining.

Do not forget about you!
